„The experience of being homosexual in Poland – between true and false self” IV European Congress of Analytical Psychology, Avignion, France, August 30 – September 2, 2018.
…..Polish scientists emphasize, that in my country the process of social emancipation of homosexuals is significally shorter compared with western countries. During communism, there were several surveillance operations taking place towards people of this orientation, that is eloquently called “Hiacynt”. Currently the social attitude is changing, but the process is too slow.
…Italian Jungian psychoanalyst Stefano Carta was wondering what could be an alternative to Oedypal complex. The question is, was this just avoiding painful point of castration? What can Oedypal complex be transformed into? Those questions go hand in hand with me during patient’s therapy. What gave me a clue me is the concept of self proposed by Carl Gustav Jung. We all remember Jung’s a painful break up with Freud. Earlier in one of the letter Jung wrote about their friendship: undeserved gift of your friendship is one of the high points in my life which I cannot celebrate with big words’. [. . . ] to let me enjoy your friendship not as one between equals but as that of father and son’.
Later Jung went through long years of nervous breakdown. So for Jung it was a process of individualization, finalism that was an alternative to a regressive thinking. Thanks to those events Jung became Jung (Jung, 1968, par 490). I also asked myself the same question, what could mean for my patient to become himself.
